What a piece of crap

I recently rented the DVD release of "The Loveless", and thankfully it was a free rental. I feel almost violated after sitting through this cinematic suppository for 82 minutes (incidentally, 82 minutes of my life I'll never get back), hoping against hope that it would improve...only to realize, somewhere around minute 41, that this movie was beyond salvation. I have read the user comments on IMDb several times, and can only hypothesize that the author did not see the same movie I had the misfortune of viewing. I truly hope that few people find their way to my comments here, as their being found heralds more unenviable souls either having been tortured by this film, or most unwisely contemplating it. In the name of all that is pure and beautiful in movies, please refrain from renting or purchasing "The Loveless". You'll thank me later.

Perhaps the author of the comments you've read saw the same flick but has a... now, brace yourself for this one as it may come as a shock - A DIFFERENT OPINION! Fancy that, huh?

I've noticed that folks either love or hate this movie, and there are no fence-sitters that I've met on the subject.

Best to watch it for yourself and make up your own mind.

If you are a rockabilly fan, a classic 'cycle enthusiast, or one who can appreciate a film that is moody, dark, and slow paced, you may be like me - one of the ones who digs this movie!

P.S.- I do enjoy reading the comments that make use of words such as "torture" and phrases that make the auhor sound like they're savin' your soul by suggesting you couldn't possibly formulate an opinion of your own and that you need be "saved" by their martyred, christ-like, "I-died-for-the-filmmaker's-sins-so-you-that-don't-need-to", without their insights! Cute!

Well, it's been nearly three years since you commented on this film, but let me add to what you have said.... Wait, I can't. I agree with you completely. I have never seen a boring biker flick, but this one takes the cake.

It almost talked me to sleep. Defoe was fine, and showed some signs of the talent he would display later on, but almost nothing happens. By the time the end comes crawling around, I didn't care one bit about any of the characters.

There's no rumbles, no fights, no action.....just talk, talk, talk. They talk, they smoke cigarettes, the talk some more, they drink beer, they talk some more. Jeese, where's the conflict?

A big Tarentino shootout in the bar might have at least lifted my spirits a little, because by the time it was over I wanted all the bikers to be lying in a bloody mass on the floor. End of boredom.

That said, Kathryn Bigelow did make the best damned vampire movie ever made, so I'll forgive her this first effort. Near Dark rocks!

This is a perfect example of how people see movies from a different perspective.
I love this film. One of my favorite DVDs in my video collection.
You either love it or hate it..

There is nothing in movies, but nothing, that is 'pure and beautiful', and it's been that way since the first motion pictures were made.

Sad that such a great movie gets labled as such (a piece of crap), but it does'nt surprise me at all that there are people who would see it this way. On the surface it may seem so, but not everybody bothers to look further to see why this movie is a timepiece of unmatched brilliance. Yes, it has periods that make you yearn for some action or an event to liven things up. But this is exactly how the 'makers' wanted it and exactly how things were in small out of the way places in the 50's. I'm not a rockabilly nor a biker, but i love this movie to death and have watched it numerous times. A piece of crap it definitely 'ain't', i could quote many a title that fits that bill but no way The Loveless .

At least you were able to stay awake!

Poor directing, boring characters, awful script, no action, no story, no acting...all equals just plain NO GOOD.

Maybe Hollyweird has spoiled you with "movies" that are nothing more than boobies and explosions; The Loveless is a timeless classic, it explores themes of incest, loneliness and the lack of direction we feel in our lives that more often than not drives us almost to insanity.

Yeah I thought it was just alright...ish
