The mess hall scene was filmed at Wellington College, Crowthorne, UK

It is quite bizarre, because I have been a fan of this film for quite a while, I first remember seeing it late at night in….. I think 1989. Interestingly, a few years later we played Wellington College at Rugby (The game not the school), I was a Cranleigh… we were soundly beaten! At match tea (the post match meal) we were seated in the dinning hall and I suddenly began to feel very anxious and very disorientated, I couldn't quite understand why. It was only a few year later when I saw the film again and watched the end credits, that I understood my response. I had a similar experience at Cheltenham Boy’s College as a consequence of having watched Lindsay Anderson’s “If”.
Interestingly I have also been to the part of London where the Hanoi portion of the film “Full Metal Jacket” was shot, and was grateful that I didn’t have quite the same response!
