Where is Annie Katie?

I've read the book, and was going to watch the movie, was looking at the character list and Annie Katie isn't even in it? That is pretty crappy if you ask me, if anyone has watched it, is she in it or not?

reply

No she is not in the movie. The film makers follow the story of the school only and do not really develop Will's character. When I was a cadet at The Citadel, there was talk of an HBO remake, but thats all it turned out to be.

reply

She isn't in it, yet Tradd walks through the ring at the Ring Ceremony with some un-named girl. Suspicious.

I was pretty unhappy about her not being in it also. Plus his entire knob year is gone too. I wasn't too thrilled with this movie. =/

Maybe I can understand that whole Annie Kate thing not being in a movie, but the whole knob year? Come on, that it one of the foundations of the book, how could you not have that in there?

The plebe year and the Annie Kate story line are two unforgivable omissions, in my opinion.

Without these two elements you don't really see why Will is willing and able to be Pierce's protector and why he does not take part in the hazing. These are essential to developing Will's character.

This is a completely watered down and vapid adaption of the book. And one I can't see Conroy being thrilled about.

At The Ring dance in the movie, Will excused himself from his date in order to talk to The Bear (The Commandant) in private. I believe she was supposed to be Annie Kate. But her looks didn't match the description in the book. If I remember correctly, she doesn't like the Institute and probably wouldn't have attended. Also, she was pregnant with Trad's child and that would made some interesting talk at the dance. The book is my number one favorite paperback and the movie did no justice. A definite three part mini series.

the movie is adapted from the book. therefore the screenwriters only used those portions of the book that made for one fluid story.
Unfortunately much of the book never made the film. such is the case when a novel is adapted for the big screen. there is not sufficient running time to do the whole story.

in order to adapt the entire book as a film, one would almost have to do either a mini series, or much like Harry Potter, break it into three or four movies tying the entire theme together.
Plebe year
Final Year part one w Annie Kate
Final Year part two
