Call to action: Local Hero on Criterion

Local Hero is one of the best films of all time; however, not even a decent DVD release exists. As far as I know, the original DVD release featured a mono soundtrack, unlike the VHS version, which featured a stereo soundtrack. This movie begs for a Blu Ray release with a stereo soundtrack.

The Criterion Collection releases significant films on DVD and Blu Ray, with the best possible image and sound, as well as many extras on the disc(s).

Criterion features a suggestion email address on their website, under the Contact Us page.

If you like Local Hero, please take a moment to suggest it as a title that should receive the Criterion treatment.

The Criterion contact page can be found here: http://www.criterion.com/contact_us

The suggestion email address is: [email protected]

Thanks for all the help friends!

Great idea! Thanks for the tip!

See my other post on Doctor Who. Now that Peter Capaldi has got the nod, perhaps that will be the push that is needed to get the quality DVD release the film deserves.

Planning to visit again *next* year, already looking forward to it!

Agreed. I sent them a message as well. The time is right. I was watching the DVD last night, and kept imagining how it might look and sound via the miracles of Criterion.

I don't know if it would ever happen, honestly - Bill Forsyth is something of a recluse and a special edition would obviously need his involvement. But I'd love to see the film get it's due. Even mediocre films have got the criteria treatment, Frances Ha and Weekend, to take two examples.

I completely concur. I thought all the way through watching the film for the first time that this was a sweet, splendid and unique film that certainly deserved to be released on blu and get the Criterion C.

Definitely hoping each month on the 15th, when they do their announcements of new titles, that this will be amongst them. Burt Lancaster is horribly lacking in representation there.
