Pennan and Ferness

I was in the north of Scotland last week, and had to avoid a crash on the A9 so diverted through the very small village of ... Ferness. It's not that far from Pennan, I just calculated it as 69 miles which isn't that far in that part of the country. It even boasts a red phone box!

Does anyone know if this is a coincidence? Does anyone know how the village of the film got its name? There doesn't seem to be another Ferness in the whole country.

Did stop off in Pennan on the way home though of course. Third time I've been there and still one of my favourite places on earth. Obviously called home from the phone box.
