The music in this movie!

What do you think of it? Isn't it hectic sounding? Here's what it sounds like if you don't remember...

Does that bring back memories?

I know the fans of the movie love it just because of the simplistic music, but for me, I've tried to get into this movie three times and each time the droning, lame amateurish music just throws me out of the experience, I've stopped it after 15 minutes of just listening to it, and I'll usually tolerate any film for any reason (I love cult films) but the lack of any sensibilities with the score make it virtually unbearable to continue. It's been sitting next to my DVD player for a month now (staring at me every time I turn on the TV) but I still have a hard time getting into a mood that I think I'll be able to tolerate it, maybe I need to watch it with subtitles and the TV muted...heh.

The only music I like is when she was dancing in her bedroom.

I do see your point. Although the film is such a unique & obscure experience- I feel that the score is too repetetive. I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the overall score- it's just that it never gives you a break. It's always full on. It would be interesting to view the film w/ the music edited out in some scenes or even substituted w/ a different tone ( perhaps a softer ethereal sound that wouldn't be so in your face). This would make sense, especially given its subject matter. Instead of that frenzied keyboard- a more ambient feel may have worked- at least to give us a break from the nonstop barrage of noise.
Then again, playing devil's advocate- this never entered my mind when I watched it years ago. It made perfect sense. So in a way, it can represent a metaphor for life. The majority of the characters are young, brash, naive, narcissistic- they only operate on minimal layers- they haven't developed emotionally- their behavior is like that frenzied keyboard. So in that respect, it is the way it should be.
Live fast, die young & leave a good looking corpse- or no corpse...

It's been years since I saw this movie, but the music I remember best is a variation on "The Bells of St. Genevieve" by Marin Marais. Surely a wonderful weird production!

It's been a little while since you posted that info on the score music in the film- I hadn't realized that most of the score is based on a classical piece from the late 16th century. Kinda cool- it gives the film more intellectual cred.

Brilliant.
