Decoder. Starring FM Einheit, Christiane F., Genesis P-Orridge, William Rice and William S. Burroughs.

And she expressed herself in many different ways until she lost control again…

reply

I'm surprised no one's mentioned The Brother From Another Planet. That's the movie that I most closely associate with Liquid Sky. Aliens, heroin, New York, weirdness, all the pieces are there. And the two movies came out only a two years apart.

reply

Totally forgot:

Mondo New York (1988)

Slaves of New York (1989)

reply

Some great suggestions here guys... I have got hold a of a few of these (Liquid Sky, Man Who Fell To Earth, After Hours) and plan on airing them this w'end.

Thanks!

Pretty....Pretty....Pretty....Pretty Good!

reply

Another one I forgot to mention is "Space is the Place", starring free jazz great Sun Ra...

Weird mixture of sci-fi/surrealism/blaxploitation...Would be a perfect double feature with "Liquid Sky"

reply

I love how people are throwing out these mainstream bombs and hipster indies with hard if not impossible to find art house films. Jubilee by Derek Jarman is the obvious to me. Just look at Anne Carlisle (I know I didn't spell that name right) and Jordan's make-up from the two films.

reply

Amen! Jubilee is the first (and only, really) movie that comes to my mind that is anything like this - completely different films but somehow similarly brilliant. The music is absolutely fantastic and made it for me and the abundance of primary colours gives the film a playful and naive charm. Great!

reply

You should also check out the Spanish film "Arrebato", made in 1979 and released in 1980. Set in Madrid, just as bizarre and hip as "Liquid Sky", if not more so.

reply

Xtro has some freaky scenes and a weird atmosphere similar to Liquid Sky.

Question: Did you ever hurt yourself to make somebody sorry?

reply

Absolutely ! Another great wondefully wacky film.

reply

Decoder (1984) is closer than any of the ones you mention. Try it!

Antiparanoia is the eerie feeling that nothing is connected to anything else

Jim Jarmusch movies remind me of the same deadpan tones:

Mystery Train
Night on Earth
Stranger Than Paradise
