On the LP soundtrack, the singer of "Nevertheless" is Jeanie Stahl

Jeannie Stahl sang the cover version of "Nevertheless".
Mason Daring (the music director for most all of the John Sayles' movies) aside from being a lawyer (the reason that Sayles hired Daring in the first place) used to sing in a duet group with Jeannie Stahl (his wife at the time), generally reffered to as "Daring And Stahl". They had a minor hit in the late 70's/early 80's with "Marblehead Morning" which was very popular on the New England college circuit.

Other songs by Daring and Stahl used in 'Lianna' were "Mr. Cool" and "Paint The Town Blue" also sung by Jeannie. Other films with their music include Sayles' first film 'Return Of The Secaucus Seven' where (and you have to listen VERY carefully because it plays very softly) is "The Boats They Come, The Boats They Go".

If you like the music you might want to look for the CD "Mason Daring And Jeannie Stahl: The Early Years" - it is a retrospective of their music through the few albums that they produced through the mid 1980's.
