My father produced KRULL

Where were all of you KRULL fans in 1983? If KRULL had so many fans back then the movie would have made big money and there would BE A SEQUEL!! WHAT HAPPENED? I did get to hang out at Pinewood and watch lots of things being done. And the best part is, I actually have one of the original GLAIVES.

reply

I was 8 years old, only discovered it a couple of years later on VHS. Well... you can consider yourself extremely lucky, you have a truly precious piece (unlike some useless ring) of sci-fi film history.

in 1983 i saw Superman 3, Return of the Jedi and Octopussy - i dont recall ever remember Krull being on at my local cinema around that time. I fell in love with the film on vhs about a year later.

Your father is awesome then! I just watch this movie about a year ago and loved every minute of it.

What does that mean? Huh? "China is here." I don't even know what the hell that means.

reply

Well, I was only 6 then, so it's no wonder I didn't see it at the time (the only film I remember being taken to the cinema to see then was Return of the Jedi). Lucky you to have a Glaive! Does it work? :)

reply

Well to answer your Glaive Question, the answer is "I really do not know if it works." I really have no place to throw it. I never have thrown it. I guess I could go to a park and throw it in some large open area. I would be afraid it would hit a tree or something and break. Or maybe it might hit some kid in the eye and that would be awful. Actually I would like to go to Italy to the very same mountains where the movie was filmed and actually put it back in the very same opening in the peak. Maybe on th 50th anniversary of the opening. The movie came out July 29, 1983. So in 2033 I might head on over to Italy and return the Glaive. A big KRULL Celebration!!

i wasn't born. I just saw Krull a few days ago for the very first time, I have to say that when I found its DVd at my local store I had in mind the film since I saw the episode of South Park in which the glaive is used by Jesus! I loved Krull. I hope I can be alive in 2033 to read here that the son of the producer of Krull came to Italy with the glaive!

So... was your father responsible for replacing Lysette Anthony's voice with Lindsay Crouse's?

reply

Actually my father wanted Lysette Anthony to keep her own voice in the movie.

reply

i loved the scenery. I am glad your father produced the film---I love(d) it

perhaps people thought it too derivative of STAR WARS-but get this STAR WARS was a rip-off of the those Republic Serials back in the 1930's with action derring do, cliffhangers, a rescued heroine. Lucas knew he was ripping off, cuz he sued the Sci Fi Magazine CINEFANTASTIQUE over its STAR WARS double issue, and held it back for a year, because CFQ suggested the very same notion

KRULL was and is a splendid movie. The romance was sweet and the adventure first rate. My three kids were young when it was in the theaters, and we went to see it three times. My son and I were both excited when it came to DVD. It is one of my favorites.

Well... in 1983 I was only minus one year old :D And I only saw it 1991 I think so. Anyway, you are a lucky bastard that you have an original Glaive ;)

reply

I just wonder if it's one of the spring loaded versions where the knives pop out?

In my country (Dom. Rep) Krull was one of the must see movies of my childhood... and glued us to the TV when it came out on cable.
Krull, Tron, Conan and The Dark Crystal... those were the biggest thing! (this of course aside all the star wars films)

reply

Erm... yeah, no, I wasn't born then, so....

...

He's a Goblin Babe!!! (And I'm not talking about the kid...)

Thank you for some really great insider information (i've checked your comment history)! Please send my regards across the ocean to your father from me and my brother and cousins who adored his movie as children!

If I can remember all the way back to 1983, I think I remember the movie trailers for Krull, and it looked like a Star Wars rip-off. I think that in itself turned off a lot of fans.

reply

I loved this film as a child and on watching it again recently found out I love it as an adult. My warmest congratualtions and thanks go to your father for producing this fantasy classic!

Now about where to send that signed Glaive....;)

reply

Congratulations to your father. I hope, he is not discouraged. At least I liked and still like the movie. Unfortunately, I was only five, when the movie came out. If I had been over 12, I had watched it in cinema.
