Really not that bad

Caught Krull on TV last night after first seeing it as a 12-year old when it came out in theaters. It's good. The special effects were a bit dubious, but people need to remember that stylistically this movie was closer to Clash of the Titans than Return of the Jedi. Stop motion and cheap blue screen were still pretty common back then even on bigger-budget films.

The acting is generally excellent.

I had never even considered the possibility, until checking these boards, that Krull rips off Star Wars. It really doesn't. If the movie steals from anything, it's clearly the Tolkein stories. The parallels between the Beast and Sauron, for example, seem blidningly obvious, even down to the persistent imagery of the one eye and the way the Beast senses people trying to find him and then fights back.

It's absurd but imaginative in its absurdity. The lead actor is terrible though. Like a poor man's Richard Chamberlain.
