Who loves the score by Horner?

One of my favorite scores in a movie.

I honestly believe this to be one of the best scores out there, period. How people can this WILLOW is a better score than this is completely beyond me. Willow is a lot of fun but it has NOTHING on this staggeringly brilliant, exciting, intricate, gorgeous and exhilarating symphony that is KRULL. It really could stand alone as a symphony apart from the film. Every moment has something intriguing to offer. I wish Horner still wrote music this complex and involving, and that in general fantasy films still had scores like this and Trevor Jones' THE DARK CRYSTAL. Romantic symphonic scores appear to be dead.

Agreed! One of my favorite scores of all time! Every once in a while, they play selections from it on Cinemagic (XM Radio)...it's makes me so happy :o)

You like the score?

You need to check out Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan... because its almost identical to that (ST2 came out a year earlier).

reply

I'm a born Trekker and my favorite Star Trek movie was The Wrath Of Kahn. The soundtrack for Krull always takes me back to a good place in my life.

I don't know a lot about anything but I know a little about practically everything

And a bit of both in Battle Beyond the Stars a few years earlier! Each score is distinct though and should be judged on their own merits. Truly a classic era of scifi/fantasy music.

I think that he was having to turn scores out pretty quickly then, so perhaps it's no surprise that there's a fair degree of similarity between them. They all polish up nicely compared to the previous one, though. Krull is also the most I've ever spent on a CD.

Amazing score. One of his best IMO.

The Widow's lullaby track of the score is priceless.

Brilliant score. Though, like many of Horner's film scores from the '80s, it borrows from many of Mr. Horner's other works. Certain parts of the "Krull" (1983) sound like "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" (1982), "Battle Beyond the Stars" (1980) and parts of "Krull" would later be heard in "Aliens" (1986), which Horner would receive an Academy Award nomination for. - All of these scores are terrific.

I picked up the "Krull" two-disc soundtrack a few years back. Highly recommended.

Fantastic rich'n'robust orchestral score. Rest in peace, James Horner.

I am the Duke of IMDb bio writers! I am A#1!

I always get the distinct feeling that working on this movie, James Horner was just a mad genius. That somebody just gave absolute control over the music to James Horner, and James just smiled a devilish grin and let her fücking rip! If I had to pick just one favorite movie soundtrack among all my dozens of favorites, I would have to huggle up to the Krull soundtrack.

Well. I'm off to the James Horner page and ask all the morons there what the hell is wrong with them because not once have I seen someone mention Krull as one of his best scores there.
