Colwyn's flamethrower hand

I love KRULL. But one thing that I don't like about it is that Colwyn's flame throwing hand ends up being more powerful than the Glaive, and is what was required to defeat The Beast. The Glaive, man. So much of the movie centered around this mystical weapon, yet in the end, it became useless. I would've much preferred to see the Beast turned into deli meat by the Glaive's sharp blades.

^ This is a BIG problem with this movie. It starts off with a quest to find this amazing mystical weapon. However, it is not to be used until our hero encounters the beast, but when he finally does use it it is almost useless (maybe it was a budget issue). Instead, he uses himself as a human blow torch in order to save the day. In the end the Glaive is left aboard an exploding (was it exploding? was it breaking off into escape pods?- who knows!)spaceship rendering the entire first half of the movie useless! This movie would have been so much better if Corwin had used the Glaive as soon as he obtained it, then(like you said) used it to chop apart The Beast and finally use it to escape from The Black Fortress. The saving graces of this movie are (for the most part) the special effects (I hate CGI it looks terrible and is a crutch), the scenery and the actors, but why in the blue blazes did they dub Lysette Anthony? A movie such as this (Medieval Sci-Fi) would have benefitted from her real accent. I really do like this movie a lot, but every damn time I watch it I can't help but think about how much better it could have been if it had been written by competent writers.

The quest for the glaive being the entire 1st half of the film? He got it literally one scene.

A whole chunk of the dialogue was that it was a symbol as well as a weapon. Its not as if it was useless, it took out 6 slayers in a second, broke into the dome where the beast was hiding, repelled the beasts attacks as well as severly wounded it in the centre where Lyssa explains in the dialogue was where the beast was at its most powerful. The fight then makes its way away from the cntre which was where Colymn was able to use the fire to deliver the knockout blow.

I actually quite enjoyed the movie bringing it back to the fire/water aspect from the marriage ceremony. The beast was thwarted earlier in the film when Colwyn wouldnt betray Lyssa by sleeping with his shapeshifter. The beast was also bellowing when he watched Colyyn and Lyssa recite their marriage vows. Lyssa was right... "power is fleeting, love is eternal". Love conquers all and all that jazz. Nice sentiment from movies such as this and a fitting way to destroy the beast using the fire which was a symbol of their love.

That is a very interesting and well thought out take on the flamethrower hand... I still would have liked it better if Colwyn had used the Glaive to chop The Beast into little pieces, but I can admit that your argument was well thought out.

Here is a post discussing how the son of Colwyn and Nyssa could rule the galaxy when Krull does not have space traveL:

Perhaps Krull is on the very edge of its galaxy and one of the few planets not ruled by the Galactic government. Perhaps the Galactic Empire was overthrown by the Galactic Republic or by a rival dynasty and the imperial family crash landed on Krull while trying to escape. Perhaps the Krull natives made the imperial family rulers of a large kingdom on Krull, which later split into two kingdoms due to a disagreement about the proper heir. If the hero and heroine are the heirs of the two branches of the imperial dynasty of the Galactic Empire their son will unite both claims and will be the rightful ruller of the galaxy in the eyes of his followers. And perhaps Galactic Empire loyalists will overthrow the new government and search for the rightful heir and find him on Krull and make him Emperor of the Galaxy.

And that suggests an explanation for the flaw-throwing power of Colwy. It was hereditary in the family of the hypothetical galactic emperors who were the ancestors of Colwyn and Nyssa's royal families on Krull. That powr cold have made thems eem superhuman and thus e help them become emperors of the Galaxy and later kings on Krull.

Perhaps the two branches of the dynasty gradually last that and other mystical powoers and then later started breeding programs among the descendants of the Galactic Emperors to concentrate the genes and regain the powers. And perhaps Colwyn and Nyssa were the first of their two families to regain those mystical powers.

You got a point. I agreed with you. Perhaps the Glaive was just designed to break the Princess Bride out of captivity, while the Flame of Holy Matrimony existed so that Prince Colwyn and Lyssa could actually destroy the Beast by incinerating him.
