Well I managed 20 mins....

...before I thought hmm no I'm not prepared to waste another hour on this crap and stopped.

I have to say Michael Caine's training montage in his red tracksuit karate chopping a punch bag was comedy gold though.

You made the right choice, though Olivier tries his best to inject some passion and style it was a clunky piece, not disimilar to an extended episode of 'Minder' at times. Caines' montage was great, I also had a chortle :)
The 'grand finale' is a shoot out in a safari park and I'm sure someone comes close to driving a cortina into a giraffe!
I was so let-down by this film I stayed up and watched Loren & Sellers in 'The Millionairess'again...more comedy gold.

Me too - it was 20 minutes before I gagged and begged for it to be removed from the player. I rented it whilst in Berlin and on the strength of the cast (and Terence Young as director) thought it worth a go. What concerned me at the time was the fact that I'd never heard of it. Also I knew that Mikey and Larry did unfortunately turn out some utter *beep* in the 70s in order to augment their pension funds. From the first moments I imagined that this turkey was hatched during the mid-70s Britfilm slump, so imagine my surprise on logging on to imdb to find that this anachronistic garbage actually came out in 1983!! As others have pointed out, the training sequence with Caine is side-splitting. Actually given the amount of reconstructive surgery the hapless character had had, it might well have proved face-splitting too. Larry's scene in his office with Caine is surely a low in the great actor's career. Rarely does one see two such incompatible acting styles-Larry going through the thesp motions whilst Caine barely registers. Oh it was arse-wiping bad.

i didn't know what year this movie was from until i saw it here, but the cop showing his birthyear being 1920 gave a hint. the translated title in the country i'm from and lead actor gives the impression this is a spoof of the bond movies, several actors from bond flicks too, one noticably older, i guess there was quite of a bond mania in 1983, the year when strangely moore and connery played bond at the same time in two different movies, i wish i had seen how that went down like back then, maybe explains the translated title this got. also i recognise the drunk builder from fawlty towers, almost total lack of any woman appearing until about half an hour in, and seems she's about the only one too, so you get 90 minutes of british weather and a lack of chicks. enjoy.

on june the 6th,
flags in their hands women so sexy,
as the sun one hot woman after another can't think of a better place to be,
cross of blue and yellow,
didn't get no peace and quiet all morn,
in beautiful weather madeleine in summer dress,
not a cloud in the sky all day,
on june the 6th,
to whats home sweet home to me.

I thought it was a descent movie. Not great but enjoyable enough.

'Descent' is the right word - Michael Caine descending into the hell of early 80s 'B' movies! He must have needed the money badly. By his own admission he made a few clunkers purely due to fear of going back to being poor or not being offered work ever again. This is a terrible film.
