Cult Classic

For some reason I just love this movie! This movie was made years before Scary Movie and all its sequels but is in the same tradition. Hysterical is every bit as funny - if not funnier. I love the part in the cafe when Casper is talking to Fritz and Paul, although Paul isn't really paying attention. The expressions on Fritz's face! OMG I nearly laughed my ass off! When Casper twitches and Fritz starts winking at him! Maybe it requires a really warped sense of humor. But in my opinion this movie is a cult classic and belongs in the same category as Young Frankenstein and Airplane.

I got to meet the Hudson Brothers and Robert Donner when they were making this film in Cannon Beach! I never could find the film until Netflix! I was thrilled. Robert Donner couldn't have been nicer...or funnier! He wrote me a note saying "Remember our night at the beach?" Robert Donner. He was a sweetheart. Also, the youngest Hudson definitely was so nice. Brett or Mark? Gee, I can't remember. I wouldn't say I LOVE this movie, but it is fun to watch and remember...and Robert Donner, rest his soul(I just found out he died this year on TCM!) was the best!

If you haven't seen Catalina Caper with Donner in a small role - even if you have to see it as the Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode - give it a look.

Close to the same role but still funny.

In some ways, Oregon looks like New England west. Very beautiful.

Brett is the youngest, Mark is the middle, and Bill is the oldest. Remember Razzle Dazzle? They were very popular in the mid-1970s, in all the teen mags.

This may or may not be a "cult classic" but the point is it was supposed to be a spoof of The Exorcist.

Now, I don't know if anyone else has caught on, but there are also references to Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

And tell me the zombie dance is not a direct spoof of Thriller!

reply

Since this movie came out before Thriller, yes, I will tell you it's not a direct spoof of Thriller. LOL

reply

Yeah, but "Airplane" and "Young Frankenstein" are not cult classics.

Classics yes, Cult classics no

I loved this movie when it came out, got the dvd many years later, and I STILL love this crazy, silly movie. I've been quoting lines from it for years...

I have to agree with everything you said, hysterical is without doubt my favorite comedy movie in the entire universe, well so far it is anyway.
There have been a few that have come close but i always drift back to it in the end, i have seen it far to many times to remember the exact number but its a lot and still after the best part of 30 years it still makes me smile as soon as i hear the line......Hi i'm frederick lansing glad you could join me.

a cult classic if ever there was one.
