The Chinese views on the British - hate them like the Japanese?
What are the general consensus on the United Kingdom from a historical perspective? Because of the two Opium Wars and the fact that China had to give up Hong Kong at the expense of many lives - do the Chinese have a lot of hatred and animosity towards the British and their allied French? From what I believe, the answer is no. Why is that?
We all know that a fair amount of Chinese have a lot of hatred towards the Japanese over the atrocities they committed during World War II. How come the Chinese don't show the same amount of hatred towards the British over the two Opium Wars?
I think it's fair to say that had it not been for the fact that Hong Kong was controlled by the British for 150 years, then the colony wouldn't have been as rich and prosperous as it is nowadays. So in that sense, did the British give a big favor to the Chinese?
