Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones

Spielbeg and Lucas wanted Tom to play Indiana Jones, but he was to do Magnum, but in this wonderful movie he proves he might have been a really good Indy, what do you guys think?

As much as I love Harrison Ford, Tom Selleck would've been perfect to play Indiana Jones. The franchise wouldn't have missed a beat. In fact, after watching Stone Cold with Tom Selleck, Tom is a much better actor.

I love Harrison Ford, but I honestly think Tom would have been better. Ford doesn't play humor the way that Tom does. Shame, really...

I dunno, maybe I'm just used to Ford. I think Sellek is to big at 6'4". Indy was supposed to be fairly tough, but still just a professor. Selleck would not have had that vulnerability with his physical presence.

Just my opinion. :-)

Yeah i love ford, but would not have minded tom at all,in this here film,he shows he could have done it with out any trouble at all,hes a great actor, and by the way,my old school professor was 6ft 6 and a rugby player to boot,so not all profs are small men.

True. It just makes it funnier or more heroic or something if he is this smaller kinda guy, you know? Tom looks like he can whip some ass, which is not as interesting as the wimpier guy that comes through in a tight spot.

To quote Joss Whedon: "It's the Air Force One Syndrome. He's a strong and tough president who, when the chips are down is strong and tough. Well that's not much of an arc now is it."

Really? I think Harrison Ford's sense of humour is great.

after seeing how harrison pissed away his career in the 90-00's,
and seeing how most of his movies between star wars and indy 1989 was dull slow poor movies,
and seeing how slow slow slow he is in interviews,
if tom selleck had been choosen to play Montana Smith then we could easily have had more Ohio Bud movies by now, instead of waiting for 20 years then getting an indiana jones movie where he flies in a refrigirator ..

I think Ford brought a kind of everyday Joe realism to the role. He acted like you and I might have in Raiders were we in Indiana's shoes.

I could see Tom Sellick doing to the role, but I think he might have brought too much of himself into that role. Tom Sellick looks the part, where Ford doesn't, but I think Ford brought us a real Dr. Jones that people could relate to. My hunch is Sellick's version of the role would have been excellent, but maybe just too "super heroic" by the virtue that it was Sellick instead of Ford.

It's a tough call.

Tough question, I really like both actors and I believe Tom has made some pretty horrible movies watchable whereas Ford has just made some really horrible movies.

I think Tom could not/would not have hurt Indiana Jones at all, but as some others have mentioned Ford is more of an everyday man and he brought a certain vulnerability to the character; Jones wasn't a tough guy. There were quite a few scenes where Indy gets the crap beat out of him (these scenes are always a little amusing) and he only survives by being clever whereas Tom always comes off as a true bad-ass who could fight his way out of any situation.
