In the style of Indiana Jones ????

When I saw this movie 27 years ago,
I was seduced as a 13 yer old kid to go see a movie
"in the style of Indiana Jones !".
Boy, what was I dissapointed.
Today I find it horrible how some movies need to mention
other movies to present themselves.
This movie has a poster in the style of Indiana Jones,
but it is hardly anything like Indiana Jones,
more like a Disney movie out of the early 70's.

Today I saw the movie again on DVD,
and again, the DVD box tells "In the style of Indiana Jones !"
I piss on those people who provided the text on that box,
I really hate those people lying in your face.

But I expected less of the movie because of 27 years ago.
And what must I say, a simple low budget adventure
that is amusing here and there,
but nothing spectacular !

Legend has it that Selleck was pencilled in to play Indiana Jones but was not available due to Magnum PI and this was an attempt to cash in.

Its that man again!!

It's really a romance, and not an actual adventure film as such. You're watching a couple grow closer together through their adventure to find the heiresses father.

Prismark10 already mentioned this but Tom Selleck was the Spielberg's and Lucas' first choice to play Indy Jones but Magnum's producers refused to release Selleck from his contract so that he could do the film. As fate would have it, the 1982 Hollywood writers strike lasted six months which would have given Selleck time to do Raiders and later when Magnum began filming in Hawaii, the Raiders crew was also there to shoot parts of the film. To be sure, there is no way Selleck or anyone could have known that the strike would last as long as it did but the point is, he could have made the film and been back in Hawaii to do Magnum. At the end of the day, it just wasn't meant to be.

Harrison Ford was actually Lucas and Speilberg's first choice.

Based on a documented conversation between Lucas, Spielberg and I think Kasdan about Indiana Jones, the latter asked who should be Indiana Jones and one of the actors Lucas mentioned was Harrison Ford. He didn't thought of Selleck at the time. Though he had Ford in mind as a visual, he had no intention to cast the guy.

Spielberg suggested Ford at the beginning, but we all know Lucas didn't want to cast Ford so that's when after all the auditions, they decided on Tom Selleck, but really Ford was the picture they had for Indy very early on.

I believe you're right. Where I got confused is that Ford was Spielberg's first choice as you said but was not initially offered the part due to Lucas' objections. According to the dvd Indiana Jones, Making the Trilogy, Selleck was the first actor offered the role by the two directors but had to decline due to prior commitments. It even stated that Steve Martin and Bill Murray were considered. Imagine how things would have turned out if either of them played the role!

reply

Steve Martin and Bill Murray really? Wow, Indiana Jones would have turned out to be a pure comedy.

Besides (like tales of the gold monkey) being in development longer than Raiders, High road to China always put me more in mind of Han Solo at the Mos Eisley cantina.
