Strange dialogue edits on versions of this movie on tv versus theater

I had seen this movie on tv several times and some of the scenes didn't make a lot of sense the way they were edited until I finally watched the original version on Netflix and now I understand why the scenes didn't make any sense.

Particularly were the scenes in the psychiatrist's office and John talking about his dream. I guess masturbation isn't a subject people want to hear about on tv so they had to edit that scene so it made the joke completely un-understandable (if that is a word).

Also, there is a short bit they show on tv where John is describing memories he had and he talks about seeing a sign with a mushroom on it, but it turns out to be a brain but then his friend tells him no, not memories that recent...older ones.

For some reason that bit wasn't in the version I just watched online. I have no idea why they'd cut that bit. Not that it was all that funny, but no real reason to cut it either.
