Electric Larry

Who the heck played Electric Larry? If you've seen this flick, you know who Electric Larry is. He is your god! If not, well, considering you'll probably never see this film ( spoiler ) --- Electric Larry would show up at just the right time. He would appear out of a puff of smoke, wearing black and silver, carrying a silver briefcase that contained ... stuff (/spoiler).

But no one knows who the heck played Electric Larry. Here we have a movie with McDowell as Reggie, Lou Reed as Auden, John "The Doors" Densmore as Toad, Daniel Stern as um the main guy and Robert Picardo as a non-holographic fire chief. Holy crap! I honestly think this movie makes Spinal Tap look like crap. Get Crazy is by far the best rock-comedy ( romedy? ) of the 1980s and it would be hard to top it. It is a freakin' travesty that it is not on DVD. For shame Hollywood.

couldnt agree more!
i couldnt think of the name of the movie, so was looking for the character Electric Larry - how come the character isnt even listed!
he should be on the cast list as "Himself"!

Since The "Electric Larry" was supposed to be a figment character and really didn't exist, maybe he didn't really appear. Perhaps "we" wished him to be there, just as they did, so he showed up, but he really didn't.
I know it sounds mind boggeling. I guess you'd have had to have to be there.

HOLY CRAP! Just when I thought I laid out a brain twister, there's a tongue twister to boot, lmfao!!!

I did a bit of digging around, and there's no mention anywhere of who played him.

However, if I was going to make a guess, I'd say it was the director, Allan Arkush. My reasoning is Electric Larry's quite skinny and tall physique, which makes his shoulders look even narrower. If you look at a picture of Arkush, he fits that profile -- I was using a recent picture, but his shape couldn't have changed that much. His neck would be thin enough and the shape of his face would fill out that tube-sock mask in the same way.

It's a sweet bit part and if it had been someone else acting the part, they'd definitely have bragged about it. I'd hire someone at the drop of a wide brimmed hat if their C.V. said, 'I was Electric Larry.'

reply

I suppose Arkush could have played him; he learnt his trade working for Corman, after all, and if there's one thing you learnt from Roger Corman, it was how to get the most out of what you had.

OTOH, Arkush definitely *does* appear (wearing his green "Filmore East" usher's t-shirt) in a quick shot during the "Auld Lang Syne" swquence.

I DO NOT KNOW WHO PLAYED HIM BUT IT WOULD NOT SURPRISE ME IF HE WAS THE ORIGINAL PIMP VERSION OF THE TERMINATOR!

Wasnt the song they played as his theme, "big electric cat" by Adrian Belew?
I vote that it was adrian Belew.
And how about Malcolm talking to his little Malcolm, and then introducing him to the band as the new manager?

Awesome! I thought I was the one and only Electric Larry fan out there. When I think of this flick, the two things that come to mind first are Reggie Wanker, and Electric Larry. This movie so should be out on DVD! I use to watch I ad nausium on HBO back in the 80s. This is one my all time favorite movies. None of my friends have any idea what I'm talking about when I speak of this movie. Such a shame and more's the pity.

the Butthole Surfers have an album titled "ElectricLarryLand"...i can only assume it's a reference to Get Crazy.

I had a car named Electric Larry, it was a pimped out Buick Electra. It was awesome!

I'm glad that I'm not the only Electric Larry fan in the world! It's even better that this guy is unknown. Even now, nearly 30 years after the film's original release, in a digital age where privacy is virtually a myth, "Electric Larry" slips past the radar! He just got 10 times cooler! I was kinda disappointed that he spoke (saying, "Happy New Year" in what became his only line) because there was a ton of mystery when he was a mute character, but even still I love that guy! And what a name, right? "ELECTRIC LARRY"

I went to high school with a guy we called Electric Harry in honor of Electric Larry.

reply

No idea who played him, but Electric Larry is my all time fave dude. This movie needs to be on DVD so all the kids can see what we really got up to back in the day. We were vastly superior at partying and far less politically correct.

Those were good things!

My bro cracked up every scene Electric Larry was in. We used to refer to a guy we went to school with as Electric Harry.
