Please release this cult classic on DVD

This is the one film I am hoping will be released on DVD, it is such a great film with awesome music and plenty of site gags and laughs. We need to petition Allan Arkush and Roger Corman and let them know this is the film that should be released so our VHS copies don't fade away

After reading the user comments of this film, I would dearly love to see it, it sounds like something I would enjoy quite a bit. Lets get it on DVD, this is clearly a cult classic that deserves to be seen by more cultists.

If you want to see this movie, your best bet is to get a VHS copy off of eBay or other used video dealer. It really is worth checking out... one of my favorite music based movies. Seeing Lee Ving in an acting role is a trip... I just wish he'd done more of this stuff back in his prime.

reply

have you seen streets of fire, a rock & roll fable? he has a small role in that movie. he plays willem dafoe's #2. another good musical.

reply

I agree with all of you. It is one of best musical movies from the 80's I've ever seen. It would be really important to get the register of this era in DVD.

reply

He's also in "Black Moon Rising", with Tommy Lee Jones, Linda Hamilton, Robert Vaughn, Richard Jaeckel, Bubba Smith and Keenan Wynn. Also, of course, "Clue".

reply

I just got this off of amazon and have yet to receive it...can't wait though. I am planning to get it transferred to DVD (Costco does this if anyone was wondering)

Man, was this a great flick! I saw this years ago and it's been one of my top flicks along with Hollywood Knights and Phantom Of The Paradise (two other unheard-ofs).

Get Crazy has some of the funniest segments in it, "The Electric Larry", the (figmentistic) character who has it all! And the conversation in the bathroom between Malcom McDowell and his new manager "Dick" is something worth seeing. Not to mention the same song being performed 3 or 4 times by different groups is like something that should've happened to Spinal Tap!

best musical movie satire ever made. i'd love a dvd release or at least a soundtrack cd. this film rocks, i remember seeing it at the theater when it was released and laughed my ass off. i've worn out 2 videos watching it. just bought another one on e-bay. can't buy it anywhere else.

reply

I love this film, the only place I could find it was years ago in a supermarket video rental. I loved Bill Henderson's line after the thrash version of Hoochie cootchie man.."Who says a white boy can't sing the blues?"....pleeease release this on DVD

reply

It's one of my all-time favorite movies. Perfect casting (Bobby Sherman & Fabian as henchmen to Ed Begeley Jr's heavy?), perfect comic timing (and speaking of funerals...), Some of the funniest lines ever in a movie (G-d, this is my man, and you'd better take care of him, or I'm gonna wax your ass!)and a foley artist must who have had Electric Larry with him while he was editing.

reply

I so whole-heartedly agree. THIS FILM MUST BE RELEASED ON DVD! NOW!

The last time I saw it was the mid 1980s on BETA. I am not kidding. I remember everything too. It was so amazing, so funny, I can still smell Electric Larry's smoke. By gobs we must have this film.

It was on Showtime? I swear if I see that in the TV listings I'm ordering that now. Greatest 1980s rock-comedy of all time.

Yes, it was on showtime HD. It was a great day when I could replace my worn out crappy VHS

If anyone knows when or where this movie will be aired on tv/cable whatever let me know asap at [email protected] In the immortal words of BROTHER KING BLUES Allen Arkush release the dvd version or I'm gonna wax yo ass.

reply

I actually saw this in the theater on opening night.I loved it and tried to see it again the following weekend, but it was already gone.
I'm happy I found this forum, because I don't anybody that's even heard of Get Crazy, let alone seen it.
I was able to make a fresh copy of it(my old one was shot)when it was on cable a few months ago(in stereo!),but would LOVE it if it was released on DVD.
Other films that are way more obscure have been released;why not Get Crazy?

It's been 23 years and I'm still learning new things about it,e.g.,I didn't realize Violetta and Evelyn Togar(from Rock and Roll High School)were played by the same actress.

reply

I wonder if there are some copyright issues with the music. One would think that if Rock N Roll High School can get issued on DVD, not once but TWICE, than Get Crazy should get a release!

Vote for There Was a Crooked Man to be released on DVD at Amazon.com!

reply

It is on tonight on "The Movie Channel", I'll have to give it a view.

reply

I caught it on Encore two nights ago and will burn it to a DVD for myself Tomorrow. Now I have the AA trilogy! R&R High School, Get Crazy, and Shake, Rattle, & Rock.

It's a good month.

reply

For the love of GOD! Will they please release this on DVD? Any news?

reply

OK - maybe this will move the powers that be to release this *GREAT* film on DVD: the VHS tape of this movie, for sale in the USA as well as other regions, is old enough so that whatever copy protection it may have doesn't stop a dual deck VCR-DVD recorder from making a near-mint DVD copy of the movie - for home and personal use only of course.

If I can make a very good quality DVD of this movie for use in my home, wouldn't someone else be able to make copies and sell them?? I would gladly invest in a studio-release quality DVD of this movie. If it came with extras, I would rush to get a copy for my own use and home library.

If the powers that be want to make any money off of a DVD of this movie, they better get moving.

I just wanted to join the chorus requesting for this to finally see the light of day again on dvd, I mean if there's a little seen 80's cult film that desperately deserves to be rediscovered on shiny disc and gain a larger audience and wider recognition it's this one. One of the all time great Malcolm McDowell performances too, a feat that's impressive in itself considering just how many great performances he's given over his lengthy and varied career.

It's funny, I haven't run across many people who even know about this film's existance, but on the (very) rare occasion that I have found someone who knows the film they always seem to be someone who really loves the flick and remembers it very fondly indeed. Why this film never got the large cult following that things like This Is Spinal Tap and The Rocky Horror Picture Show garnered I'll never know.

reply

i agree, please release this on dvd. i want to see Nada again.

reply

No news, other than 'Not gonna happen' due to the tangle of music rights that would have to be negotiated. Find a VHS copy that's pristine, pay the money the vendor wants, get a Super VHS deck and a DVD recorder with a HDD (Hard Disk Drive), hook up one to the other and then both to the TV, press 'Play' on the Super VHS and 'Record', on the DVD, wait until it's finished copying to the DVD recorder, and then burn the movie from the HDD to a DVD.

reply

A Get Crazy DVD release is unlikely, due to issues with the sound elements.

reply

Consider this another plea for the DVD to be released. If I could find this DVD I'd buy it like RIGHT NOW. Not releasing this DVD must be a terrible oversight. C'mon, get on it already!
