What did you rate ''Fire and Ice'' (1983)?

I was very entertained by this sword-and-sorcery adventure, but the limitations of its rotoscoped animation are severe. The story and characters are also very limited in their scope. Having watched this after seeing Princess Mononoke, a real animated fantasy-adventure, I couldn't rate this higher than 6/10.

What did you rate it? What do you think of it?

...Justin Glory be, Delbert, you should eat! You're a count, for God's sake!

I saw it as fluff entertainment, and still enjoy it for that reason. Siskel and Ebert dismissed it as racist schlock: Dark skinned neanderthal inferiors living and dwelling among an evil snow kingdom, led by a sexually repressed albino. Looking at it with more mature eyes, and having read the inspiration for the source material, I can see some truth to what they were saying, but it never struck me like that when I saw it as a young man. I just thought it was this cool sword and sorcery cartoon... though I did wonder why Larn was a half naked tan blonde. To me that seemed cliche and stupid, but more due to marketing pressures than an actual conscious story decision.

One gets the sense that these people wanted to make a Conan cartoon, but had neither the technology, nor the rights, to Conan, which was bought up by ... Universal Studios, I think.

All in all I liked it, and still enjoy it as a mindless entertainment. I mean, all these people wear are loin cloths and animal skins while running around in the cold? How seriously can you take it?

I gave it a 3/10. While there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the animation, the ridiculous array of cliches and stereotypes (esp. the racism) made it almost offensive for someone with half an education to watch. The dialogue was absolutely horrific ("Sometimes I feel so alone in the night!" to a complete stranger), and more often than not it felt like the movie existed solely for the purpose of showing off Teegra's enormous bosom. I mean come on! Virtually every shot of her has her rear end "presenting" to the (presumably) male viewer. Pretty sad, really. Even Larn was totally useless, and he was the first character we met.

It's as though the filmmakers were making it up as they went, dialogue, character, and all. Except Teegra. She was clearly planned very carefully to be a shallow sex object, and that's all.

10/10 It was beautiful, realistic (as far as fantasy cartoons go), with great not over the top action and bouncing boobs. One of the best animated movies I've ever seen. Btw anyone calling it racist is a racist himself. And an idiot.

I gave it 5/10. Really, I wish we could vote 5.5/10, which would make it average. The art was very good, but the story, action and music were all too familiar. I'm not a big fan of these animated adventure films, though, so it takes a bit more to impress me.

I gave it a seven. I thought the animation was good, and while the story was cliche it was entertaining. Teegra is the hottest cartoon I've ever seen. The dialogue was pretty terrible though.

5/10. If it wasn't for the excellent animation, it would have been a 3. It certainly features some of the best animation of the 80's, but I found the movie extremely dumb and not in an enjoyable way. Come to think of it, I think I never was able to finish this movie because I fell asleep...

I watched this for the first time today.
i usually don't like fantasy or animated films but this was an easy film to get through.

I'll probaby watch again in the near future and maybe bump the score a point up or down.

I give a 8/10.
I hope the fix the script a little for the live-action version movie
then the movie will be awesome!!

8/10, the flaws only make it more enjoyable and interesting to look at for me.
