US version is cut

Well, not really cut, but it's definitely missing some scenes.

I'd heard that the European version of Faces of Death 2 ("Gesichter Des Todes 2") is longer and contains more scenes that the American version released by Gorgon Video, so I decided to download it recently and check it out myself. Sure enough, the European version is around fifteen to twenty minutes longer, with several scenes missing from the US version. Unfortunately, a German audio track is dubbed over Dr. Gross' original narration so I'm not exactly sure what is happening in some of the scenes, but for anyone interested I'll list out what is missing (and at what time they occur in the film) -

0:12:15 - Car accidents on the autobahn. This same footage was later used in the American version of "Faces of Death 3"
0:15:25 - Car accidents at racing events. Could all be at the same event, I don't understand the narration other than something is said about Indianapolis.
0:17:27 - A bunch of footage of different bull riding events in which the cowboys get stomped pretty bad
0:39:46 - Dr. Gross drinks tequila in El Salvador. This footage was later used in "Faces of Death 3". At 40:17 there is a small extra bit of footage showing some fighting in El Salvador that is not in the American version of FOD2.
0:43:25 - More fighting, I guess still in El Salvador. Gun shots, people running and screaming, no idea what's going on.
0:44:56 - US Military testing of planes, missiles and bombs. Lots of explosions.
0:58:57 - Footage of the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagen.
1:04:53 - The footage of American pollution is extended, a rocket is shown launching into space (I have no idea why).
1:05:34 - Dr. Gross in a church, talking.
1:06:27 - Some sort of violence in what appears to be the Middle East. Lots of bodies.
1:12:10 - Dr. Gross holds a bunny and talks to some children, followed by animal slaughter. This was all used in "Faces of Death 3".

That appears to be it, unless I missed anything. There are also some small differences, mainly different music playing in certain scenes (I'm probably the only person obsessed with the Faces of Death series enough to really catch something that small). I'm not really sure why they cut a lot of this stuff from the US release, especially the extra bits with Dr. Gross on camera (though they did use two of these three pieces later). It would be nice to have the complete version released on DVD though (with an english vocal track, preferably!).

Thanks for that information, so glad I found your post. I'm pretty obsessed with the different FOD films as well. I've got the alternate version of Part 3 ("Fear") but didn't know about this having 2 versions. Also, I know Part 6 has atleast 3 versions.

The European Faces of Death 2 VHS was a compilation of original FOD 2 & 3. In France, we don't have any Faces of Death 3. The only "face à la mort 3" VHS (1991) was in fact Inhumanities 2.
