DVD now!

Just thought I'd be the first one to start a thread for a DVD release. Certainly its a flawed movie but at the same time I think its a cult classic and personally I'd love to see a proper DVD release with cast and director, writer commentary!

Glad to see someone enthusiastic about Eyes Of Fire ... it's still a personal fave of mine. I have a nice gigantic poster of it from the video release, and I sure wish someone would consider giving it a nice DVD treatment (after all, Anchor Bay released "Pin..." and I thought that would never see the light of day again, so maybe Eyes Of Fire has a chance). It is indeed a unique little gem!

reply

Yes, Eyes of Fire needs to have a DVD release. It would be very interesting to see a commentary as well with director Avery Crounse and such rather under-used very talented actors like Dennis Lipscomb and Guy Boyd that have been in quite a few major films in recent years. I'd love to see Anchor Bay release this to DVD with features, because this hidden gem seems to have faded away despite that there are many fans of this very creepy and eerie ghost story that has much potential and also I feel inspired works such as The Blair Witch Project.

reply

Hope they release it

I too would love to see this compellingly quirky and original horror-Western oddity come out on DVD. It's an admirably unusual, inspired and most of all unconventional indie fright film item with fine acting from a solid cast, plenty of strikingly bizarre and beautiful images, and a nicely spooky and ambiguous atmosphere.

I asked Unearthed Films and Anchor Bay to look into releasing this. Both said they'd look into it, but I haven't heard anything about it since.

reply

Good call! I still own the VHS.

I REALLY wish this would be released on DVD. This film is so atmospheric and the cinematography is amazing. I always thought it could've tied into the Blair Witch Project very well. It's just one of those movies you never seem to forget. It's not perfect but sometimes perfect is forgettable and for me, this film won't be forgotten anytime soon.

The movie is available in Region 3 DVD.

reply

I've got the tape. In terms of DVD, I'm holding out for the longer version.

reply

Do you know of any online stores that carry the Region 3 DVD?

there has been a revolving eBay auction out there for awhile now. I have this same DVD. Not bad so if you have an all-region DVD player, this DVD would play in the US.

Just buy the pal format dvd from amazon. lot of people list the dvd under the vhs listing. You can most likely play it on your dvdrom. Thats what I just did. I bought the japan dvd, and took off the subtittles. It has english subtittles on it too. It might not play on your dvd player, but your computer will play it most likely. The transfer is amazing. Its like wow! Finally getting to see the movie VERY VERY VIVID! The dvd looks so much better and it looks more frightening.

If anyone wants to know how to obtain an all region DVD of this film get in touch

I've gone through many VHS copies of this over the years. I also run a small video store, and I always try to keep a VHS copy in stock there, too.

I just received this on a DVD from Brazil I ordered off Ebay. It's All Region, and NTSC, so anybody in N America can play it.

All the menu options, as well as the jacket cover are in Portuguese, and the movie defaults to (removable) Portuguese Subtitles. The transfer is a bit sad, it's essentially the Full Frame VHS version scanned to DVD, possibly from an original broadcast tape.

On the plus side, well, it's a DVD, much easier to lend to friends. And as murky as the transfer is it will never get worse, unlike the VHS I've gone through. And the clincher was the price, under $20, not like the old VHS rental copies up for bid.

Hello, I know you posted this in 2008, so, I am very sorry for late reply. I would like to buy this, but, it is going to be a rental for my store. So, I have a few questions. First, it says all region, so I know that means it will play in region #1. But, does it have the same cover art from the original VHS (back and front)? Also, how much is it? and, is it still available?

reply

blu ray is coming out. how is the film?

reply

now streaming on shudder.

i just finished watching it. i didn't quite love it personally, but it is a very neat film visually, in a sort of charmingly crude way. if you have shudder, it's absolutely worth a look. lots of people seem to love it, so my own disinterest in it may strictly be a me thing.

reply

I’ll add it. 👍

reply

i'll be very curious to see what you think. i 'think' it might be something you like quite a bit.
