DVD of El Norte coming

Criterion will be releasing "El Norte" on DVD in 2008. It will have special features, including a director's commentary. They just finished the transfer from original elements and the word is that it looks "spectacular". If you have any questions about the making of the film, its symbolism or its meaning, post them here - perhaps they will be dealt with in the special features on this disc. This is great news for fans, like myself of this wonderful film. This will be the first time in many years that people will be able to see "El Norte" as it was meant to be seen.

I have not seen this since the 80's. It is one of those movies that still stays with me after all these years. I'm so glad that it will finally come out in DVD so I can send copies to Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, and other racists out there.

Don't confuse the end of your world with the beginning of mine.

I used this film as the subject of my Masters of Education final Project with lesson plans, synopses, worksheets, topics for students, etc. I have used this in my Spanish classes for the past 15 years. It always blows students away. Because of its artistry, you can view this on many different levels, including the obvious plot surrounding immigration, but also larger themes such as the American Dream and the flight from oppression for the disenfranchised, as well as exploring universal archtypes such as quest mythology.

I look forward to this release.

i just got a copy of it from amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/El-Norte-NTSC-Region-American/dp/B000M0MV32/ref=pd_sim_v_img_2 it's not criterion, but it's better than nothing.

I hope that Elnortefan is correct. However I've checked the Criterion website and there is no mention of a possible DVD of El Norte. Where did Elnortefan get this information from?

This is a great movie, but definitely a tough one to get through....
