Gregory Nava, came and peaked with 'El Norte'

What happened?!?! "El Norte" was so well done, he thought of everything and the imagery, the sub-text, the acting, the casting, the editing...all of it was wonderful and worked so well.

Has anyone seen his films after this??? They just were plain boring and lacked the passion. Every single one of them, even his well-intentioned "Mi familia-my family" that was higher budgeted and had a decent story line yet wasn't even 1/8 of imaginative or as reliant as visual language like "El Norte" was.

So sad!

Sure it's hard to match El Norte, but didn't you appreciate Selena(1997)? I found it full of passion and interesting and it has a more-than-decent story-line.

Selena had good intentions (like "My family") but did not make use of visual language or even character interaction as effectively as "El Norte". He peaked with it apparently. And now that you mention it, "Selena" would have been a perfect way to use visual language & imagery as you had the Mexican-American aspect, the fact she was a pop star, the fact she was a female and the fact that she had music involved to make it happen...BUT...this movie was made in less than 2 years since she was killed, he had to pay respects to Selena. Had it not been rushed and he made the Selena movie today, I am sure he could have allowed himself to be more creative.

Anywho... it's a shame. At least Gregory made one masterpiece!
