Pick me! I have strong arms.

This movie should be mandatory viewing for anyone living in border states (I grew up in Dallas and currently live in San Antonio)...

Think about it--what's more "American" than wanting a better life?

Respecting laws is more "American" than a vague desire that every human possesses. And the rich people this film shows hiring illegals to save some pocket money should be deported as well.

This must be why the USA has the highest incarceration rate in the world, by far. The number of imprisoned people per 100,000 is about 25% higher than the second-highest country (Russia). In fact, the prison population in America is the largest in the world, at ~2.3 million. Compare that to China's ~1.6 million despite them having a population over four times the size of the United States.

What a simple, little universe you live in.

Being such a law-abiding patriot, you, of course, would have insisted on being shot to death by the death squads or on running off to starve to death in hiding.

It's a film that attempts to humanize two desperate refugees; how very brave of you to remain immune to that effort.

I just noticed that: In the beginning, Arturo tells his son Enrique that "all they (the finca bosses) see us as is a pair of strong arms". In the end, full circle.

"No more half-measures."

It was sad to see Enrique broken down to being the "pair of arms" by story's end that his father warned him about, after having such a good shot at a more professional level of the service industry, and certainly having the acumen for it. The Mexican-American server that ratted on him was such a punk. I'll bet the service at that restaurant declined, too, with the sullen, entitled "American" taking waiter's assistant job from the determined and charismatic Enrique.
