Rita says that she wants to find herself. How does she achieve that? Through literature or through studying?

Rita says that she wants to find herself. How does she achieve that? Through literature or through studying?

She learns literary analysis and becomes a critical reader. In doing so, she develops self-confidence (speaking out in class, becoming the star of the class at summer term, writing papers that are not rubbish). She feels strong and confident enough to leave her husband, tell her parents off and move out on her own.
