Dialogue

I really like this movie.

So, apparently do most of the posters on this board. However, the dialogue is just atrocious in places.

By way of illustration:

Frank to Maggie: But I wanted to go...oh god, how I wanted to go.

Now, it should be noted that Frank had just spent his evening watching "his" old bandmate playing "his" old songs, and was probably feeling a bit of the tumult of the times when the band was together. Also, I think Frank was a bit drunk at that point, which doesn't tend to make a person less maudlin...

Hmm...I may have just argued myself right out of this.

Someone take a side so I'll know where to stand!

I don't agree or disagree with you necessarily, but I thought during that very same line you quoted, Man, that was kinda cheesy to say.

Maybe without that one line, I might not have started this thread.

It just rips you out of the moment in the film, and makes you go "Yeee...", with your teeth clenched and your shoulders all bunched up.

Actually, I think you're right... just not with that one line. To me, Berenger gave a good performance in this movie. It's those awful lines which in turn get overacted... ("We're not great... We're just some guys from Jersey!") which were the real clangers...

I liked the 'Why? We're not great.. we're just some guys from Jersey' line. In fact I liked the entire exchange between Sal and Eddie at that time.
