(Anniversary) Special Edition DVD petition is back:

Hey Guys,

Last year i started a petition call for this beauty to be inducted into the 'special edition' hall of fame DVD's. I just created a petitions' page website and would like any feedbacks you would have regarding what to ask MGM to include if there ever is such a disc. This is what we have thus far so try to come up with something different, and hopefully some new information related to the making of this film, its cast/production members or annecdotes. Also does anybody know the original picture format specs?
Kuddos:

"To Whom It May Concern:

We love the movie "Eddie and the Cruisers." We think there should be a Special Edition DVD released by MGM.

We would like to see the following special features:

Original Picture format: Widescreen/Anamorphic

Soundtrack(s): English Dolby Digital 5.1 & DTS.

Feature commentary by cast/
production crew.

Music-only soundtrack.

Original: "Making Of" documentary.

New interviews and documentary on the movies' production, and lasting impact.

Live performances by the 'Beaver Brown Band'.

Deleted/Alternate Scenes & Outtakes.

TV spots and trailers.

Subtitles: English.

Notes: Original poster print for the DVD cover.
No cheesy ‘headshots’ or ‘portfolio’-like photos please.

Please give the movie the five-star treatment it deserves. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

(undersigned)

Why only english subtitles? Why are Eddie and the Cruisers fans so darn racist?

reply

HAHAHAHAH

Bud this is supposed to be an open debate, cannot think of everything and since its an English language film.

Here is a Question to ask MGM- Why is it that a really good movie (at least I have always thought so) with some really good actors : Tom Berenger,Ellen Barkin,Joey Pants (Pantoliano) and Michael Pare' has been totally forgotten and made fun of? And why is it that none of then nobodies but later on big name movie stars say nothing about it? Almost as if they are ashamed of it. I don't think they have anything to be ashamed of and it should definitely be released on a special edition DVD. And all those damn critics who continue to badmouth it should go watch something else like Waynes World! talk about stupid!!!!!

What people? or critics? all i have read and heard is good hence this post.

What is the significance of a "special edition"? I ask because I think this film is available on DVD. If it weren't and you asked that it be released to DVD, then I could understand. Many movies I like have never been released to DVD. Another thing that makes me wonder is that often the same DVD is released multiple times, giving me the impression they want hardcore fans to buy the same movie repeatedly. Please if you could clear up my confusion here.

The way i see it is as follows:

A special edition DVD includes things like commentaries by cast/crew, special making of features, docos etc...

But like you say, nowadays in order to keep cashing in on movies, especially the blockbusters, they are now re-releasing stuff with new titles such as: 'NEW DIRECTORS' CUT', 'EXTREME EDITION' etc...A good example is the recent GLADIATOR movie, and BOURNE IDENTITY. And just look at the EVIL DEAD movies, there must be 20 different versions out there with their own intrinsict material to that particular region.

But to me if a favorite movie of mine, such as this one, is released with enough worthwhile extras such as the commentaries, new docos, some insights and new material regarding the movie i am all for it and wouldn't bother buying any of the later re-releases.

And I guess it is obvious to everyone that it will all be for naught when the HD versions are released (for example, on blu-ray discs)? The higher resolution will make the old DVD versions look dated, and then yet another super-improved version will be swung before the fans' eyes like the watch of a hypnotist. Well I must tell you I never saw this movie. Back when it came out I guess I just figured it was a musical. However I will try to see this movie on my premium TV channel. I do like both Berenger and Paré. I first became a fan of Berenger when he played Tim on One Life To Live. You could tell the dude had a lot of charisma but I had no idea he would rise from soap operas to the big screen. Most soap actors don't, maybe because their talent is mediocre, at best. Now he has a long career to look back on. Paré got a lot of roles in so-so movies but I did like one of these where he is in the middle east playing a dual role as twin brothers. The first film I remember taking notice of him was (of course) THE PHILADELPHIA EXPERIMENT, which I really like and have seen many, many times. I remember the first time I saw it, thinking "this film is a a classic".

BTW I had well over 500 tapes in VHS days. Maybe I am a bit leary of supporting a format which will some day be outdated (= all formats, sooner or later). To date I only have about 12 DVD's.

Well unfortunately for Michael Pare his career didn't go nowhere as predicted from his breakout role here and in Streets of Fire. His career reminds me of Ken Wahl from Wiseguy.

I just sold my VHS collection of more than 1 000 tapes and have concentrated on DVDs but like you say, its getting ridiculous with all the new stuff and technologies etc...But i hope that they don't rehash them in new formats or the like, so the ones we have purchased retain their sole special features qualities. Like the dufunct Laser disc formats, where some of them have retained special features not available anywhere else like a commentary by Scorcese for his TAXI DRIVER and an excellent version of EL CID.

Well, a special edition needs to be released because all the current edition has is the theatrical trailer. We need an "Eddie and the Cruisers" DVD with a Making-Of" documentary, a music-only track, interviews with the cast, interviews with the Beaver Brown band, tours of on-location sites in the film, a photo gallery of publicity and film stills and the theatrical trailer. Now...all we have is the trailer.
