Eddie and the Cruisers / Into the Great Wide Open ?

Eddie and the Cruisers - that's also the name of Johnny Depp's band in Tom Petty's "Into the Great Wide Open" video. Is there any similarity between the action in the video and the things that happen in the movie? What's the catch?
