Okay...the highschool where Frank teaches is in Vineland NJ. The beach scene was at the 9th Street Beach in Ocean City NJ. The majority of the movie was filmed on Bay Avenue in Somers Point. ony MAtrz doesn't exist anymore...it was reopened for the movie, but the house where they start playing On The Darkside still stands.

I live next to the town of Somers Point.. actually its 3 minutes from here.
I saw the movie for the first time last night.. I did notice the 9th Street Bridge, which connects Somers Point to Ocean City. I saw the Ocean City Boardwalk. The bridge which Eddie "dies" , I cant remember the name of it but I think I recognized it.. in Somers Point you can get over to Ocean City a few different ways.. there is an old wooden bridge, very low to the ground and I drove over it once and thought it was going to collapse. Its closed now. But Im sure this is the bridge Eddie drove his car off of.
Also Bay AVenue, I go there frequently... the place in the movie is no longer there but I think its opposite from where Atlantic Medical Imaging is now.
I taped the movie so I have to look and see which house is still standing.. a lot of things have changed in the last 10 years over there.
there are a lot of restaurants right on the water near Bay Avenue. Its a small area. Theres a new WAWA (like a 7-11) on the corner of Bay and Shore Road. Theres a restaurant now across from AMI and there is still a motel across the street from that. Im wondering if they filmed the scenes of the motel from that particular one. Its the only one on Bay Avenue right near the 9th Street Bridge.

The hotel that it was was filmed at...where Wendell died was on the corner of Bay Ave. and Longport Blvd, going towards Longport. It was across the street from a bar called Caroline's that is there now. It was torn down a couple years ago. Besides the hotel, everything else filmed in Somers Point was filmed at the other end of bay avenue, near the 9th street bridge and the somers point circle. Tony Martz stood on the prperty where the old Brownies by the bay was and now it's some kind of teen club....across the street from the old Waterfront resturant. I was born in Somers Point and lived between there and Egg Harbor Township, which is 3 minutes away also, for 30 years. The bridge where eddies car goes off is the old 9th street causeway...it was the two big bridges and in between on the causeway were 2 rickety wooden bridges.

Holy crap, I knew something about this movie looked familiar! I spend a week each summer in Ocean City, N.J. and Somer's Point!

I have been to both Asbury Park and Ocean City, NJ. Ocean City is a much better area.

I think the old bridge you're thinking of is the Beesley's Point Bridge, connecting Somers Point to Upper Township, Cape May County.

....and Whitey's on the moon

Im at that area a few times a week on Bay Avenue... I have been to the Dolphin Dock a number of times but cannot find the house in which they practiced On the Dark Side. Someone said its a red house..well that house is across the street and there is a deck which would fit perfectly, but the house isnt the same, its an old house, nothing done to it..and now its abandoned and up for sale this past week..
The house in the movie had vents above the windows on the deck and the red house doesnt... so it wasnt filmed there.
Does anyone know which house it was?? Next to the red house are 3 houses with very little space apart so i know its not those homes.
Im beginning to think they filmed the house at another nearby location and then just added the background of the Dolfin Dock and the water (they can do that) since I searched the area and cannot find the house.

reply

It is the red house...that house was actually owned by the same people who owned Tony Martz.

The exterior of Doc's apartment was filmed in Blackwood, N.J. at the Black Horse Motor Lodge. It was a filthy place, which has since been torn down.

Thanks for all the replies. I live in South Jersey so it's interesting to hear that this movie was filmed so close to where I live. I'm familiar with most of the locations you all mentioned.

That is definitely not Vineland High School that they show Wordman teaching. Neither building actually(there are 2: 9/10 and 11/12 or North and South). Tony Marts was across the street from one of my favorite restaurants, The Crab Trap. As for the bridge, I don't believe it's the Beasley's Point Bridge. It looked like the 9th Street Causeway. But the movie said he went off of the Raritan Bridge which is way north of Ocean City. As for the deck, I believe they're on the deck on the roof of Tony Marts.

Watching Eddie and the Cruisers II right now and they just showed Asbury Park Boardwalk

reply

Yes, a scene from the horrible "Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!" was shot on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. The concert scenes for the finale and Eddie's big return onstage were filmed in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center in between sets of Bon Jovi's headlining "New Jersey" tour after Skid Row's opening set. Scenes were also shot in New York. I think the majority of that movie was filmed in Quebec.
