the movie ends with him living his whole life kissing the mother in law's ass and living a double-life? i don't think he had a good relationship with the family to begin with, but at least at the start he could be himself around his family.

Yes but you are forgetting that in the movie, Rodney was sucking up to his mother in law for the money.

Rodney hadn't changed, just made the mother-in-law THINK he did. His family knows the truth (notice the young daughter roll her eyes when he gets up from dinner to "walk off all those vegetables and go to bed early."

Dude! That's MY birthday too. Not only that, I saw it on my 9th birthday because our mom would always take us to a movie on our birthday, even if it was a school night. Those were the days, when a nine year old boy's mom would take him to a Rodney Dangerfield movie on his birthday.

Once you are familiar with the final dinner scene in The Bank Dick...this particular ending in Easy Money becomes a real riot!! Great film---perhaps Rodney's best (and Joe Pesci and Jeffrey Jones added a lot to it).
