This movie was horrible, but I love watching it.

Yes, I know it was corny and a sign of the downfall of the 80's but I loved it for it's cheesiness.

Me too! Despite it being slapped (and I mean slapped) together to squeeze pennies from an unwary public seeking SNL wackiness, it somehow has charm. I also like to think it's about a person under incredible pressure learning to be seize the moment and make things happen. There's sort of a sweetness to this tale that belies empty-headedness of the whole affair. Always secretly glad when I catch it on TV.

This definitely wasn't a sign of the downfall of the 80's! What a garbage statement....

I agree. This movie has a cult following. I totally loved watching it on HBO in the early 80s. It was a lot of fun. It still is! Seriously, a movie doesn't have to pass blockbuster approval to be good. The sequel should have been made and I would have totally enjoyed it.

I just watched it yesterday. Still watchable though very much a product of its time. Very corny but I still get a laugh out of watching it, especially the couple who played Akroyd's parents. They were hilarious. And James Brown could still do those splits. He was pushing 50 then but he could still hit the floor and bounce back up. Wow!!

I just discovered this movie.

I will say that this movie is AWFUL. But it is the sort of awful that I absolutely love! I think that Danny boy had it right when he made this movie, it is just complete fun without a moment of "drama." We need more movies to lift people up with the heavy helpings of depression in modern day comedies.

My favorite part is the beginning, where he is doing his power walking! They keep calling him a "geek," which is an antiquated term that sticks out here. I also love it when they stop to watch him, and then speed off and kick water all over him. It makes me laugh so hard I cry when he goes "Maaaahvalusssss" with his rear view glasses on and covered in water!

I will say that I hated it at first, and then I watched it a second time because something with it clicked in me. This is one of those movies that gets better with further viewings, I believe.

Geek is still used as a term today---as in computer geek--nothing antiquated about it.

The movie is painfully unfunny and boring. The only redeeming quality is the attractiveness of the female supporting cast.

It's amazing the difference in quality between this film and Trading Places released a month later.

I HAVE SEEN IT ONCE

Is this the one with Dan wearing edible panties?

... and admit being attracted to Jasmine. And Fran Drescher.

I saw it again a few months ago & still appreciate the campiness of it all.

Thanks for the reply. Gotta see it now! Dan in edible underwear. Oh yes! ;)
