Jasmine's 'accent'

What was the deal with that? One minute shes speaking normally then in certain scenes shes speaking in that goofy "ahh-so" stereotypical Fu-Man-Chu accent. What gives?

It was an act for her. The "pearl of the orient number!" You know, like if a blond working girl had a persona named "Inga" and adopted a Swedish accent to get guys turned on.

That's what gives, and I'd be only too happy to receive! Jasmine was def my fav of the Dr's girls!!

Yeah, I really dug Jasmine alot too. But she seemed to keep her 'act' up when it was totally unecessary.

The whole movie was totally un-PC from the asian stereotypes of Jasmine to Akroyd's southern "cracker" act, TK Carter's slick-talking black driver and Fran Dresher's over-exaggerated jewish voice (of course, when DOESN"T she talk that way?). But that was an era when it was still ok to get away with that stuff. Uncomfortable to watch at times now but still funny.

Uncomfortable for the indoctrinated.

"TK Carter's slick-talking black driver"

He seemed to be an early 80s version of Jack Benny's Roachester. He kina played the same role in 'Seems Like Old Times'.

I noticed how Jasmine's accent changed periodically. The part where she dials the college's meeting room and says, "Oh Criff, I'm still tingling from last night...," really cracked me up, even this morning when I saw it again on cable.

But, as long as I got to look at her throughout the movie, I didn't care how she sounded.
