Remake or Sequel?

Is there anyone who would like to see a remake of this great film or at least a sequel, with Clifford's son now taking over as Chi-Town's biggest pimp? The end of the film mentioned a sequel but it might have been a joke by the film's producers.

reply

Well the end of the film was shot in 1983 does that answer your question?

reply

I suspect the promo for "Doctor Detroit II: The Wrath of Mom" at the end of the film was a joke. If not, the project was surely canceled when this movie bombed at the box office.

reply

That was one of the few real laugh-out-loud moments of this movie for me. They mocked it up just like the logotype in the Wrath of Kahn movie poster. Good times! I hadn't seen this movie in many years, but picked up a copy for myself in a bargain bin at the drugstore (and was amazed it was on DVD). Naturally, after watching it, I figured I'd poke around online to find some more info.

Surprisingly, there are a few places that say Dan Aykroyd was indeed writing a sequel, but after the disappointing box office returns came in on the original, the idea was abandoned. One can only imagine what kind of diabolical scheme Mom could cook up worthy of bringing... nnnThe Doctorrr... out of retirement.

Yes, I thought "The Wrath of Mom" sequence was quite funny, and it made me wonder why everything that preceded it couldn't have been as entertaining. I found my VHS copy for a buck at a Goodwill store, and I didn't think it was ever released on DVD either.

I vaguely remember when this came out because the video for "Doctor Detroit" by Devo was played on MTV. I love good '80s films, and sometimes the bad ones are even better, but this was just average, in my opinion. I don't regret that it took me 25 years to see it, and I'm glad Dan Aykroyd moved on to better projects than a possible sequel to this.

I just rented this. I had fond memories of this movie when I was a child but I can't see a re-make or a sequel. This is the kind of movie for 80's children and 80's children alone. This generation Would Not get this movie.

Excellent point. In fact, I fear almost ALL of the 1980's would go right over the heads of this current young generation. Given the sad excuse for movies, music and even politics they are fed, it's no wonder they want to plug in Ipods and just tune out anything that doesn't go 'boom'.

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

I agree. They really need to make a sequel. This is a total cult classic. I love this movie. It's one of my favorites done by Dan Aykroyd. I really hope one day he does bring it to light. I know I would definitely see it and buy it. He's a great comic writer. Maybe an online petition would help??? *L* We can always cross our fingers and hope some day he does. But I love the parts where they're discussing fruit cups and a choice of veggies about the dinner and the scene where Rausehorn is dropped off by the police and the mom was like "How did they get your pants off? Were you molested? Give me all the details and don't leave anything out." That just cracked me up. Made me wonder what a woman like that was doing with the uptight dad. *L*

According to the trivia section about Dr.Detroit, Dan Aykroyd was in fact writing the sequel, but due to the fact "Dr. Detroit" was a box office dud.., it was scrapped.

"What time is Recess?"

reply

I actually think they should make a comic book out of it lol...

~We are a race that has trouble programming VCRs. Is it any wonder our spaceships keep blowing up?~

reply

Yes-I would love a sequel...I thought this movie was rip-roaring good fun. So I bought it and watch it every so often. The 'Wrath of Mom' would be a real hoot.

reply

How about neither?

Can't hollywood do anything else anymore?

reply

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOLLYWOOD THOUGHT THIS POS WAS GOING TO BE A BIG HIT! YES, I'M SHOUTING!

This generation Would Not get this movie.

I'm not sure I've ever gotten this movie either, and I was 23 when this came out. The Doctor Detroit character has always confused me. I know he's supposed to be some sort of pimp crime boss, but I don't understand what kind of genre he seems to be parodying. Is it black exploitation films?

Just saw the movie for the first time in 30 years. The credits foretold of "The Wrath of Mom" as a sequel. Obviously there wasn't another, just like the disappointments for the lack of sequels for "Buckaroo Banzai", The History of the World" and "Remo Williams, the Adventure Begins" (and ended).

There should be SOME way we can get in touch with Mr Aykroyd about atleast some questions about a possible Wrath of Mom in the near future or not.

reply

I just wonder how they would bring the Doctor back if Cliff was unmasked in front of a huge crowd.

He dies at the end.
