What does she say?(SPOILERS)

*MAJOR SPOILERS*

When Patti comes walking toward Samantha with a knife revealing she was the killer all along, She says something like "it's only me thats left" and then Samantha says "what do you mean" and then I can't really understand what Patti says after that. It sounds like she says "You did it too", but that wouldn't make any sense. So does she say "I did it too" or something completely different. I dunno... maybe i'm just deaf.

Patti says "You're DEAD too," then she stabs Samantha. So that's what she meant -- that Samantha was going to die.

And don't worry -- you're not deaf. I had to play it a few times to make it out.

Thank You!

You're most welcome! It hard to believe I had never heard of this film until a few days ago, when I found it in the buck bin of a record store. Somehow, this overlooked gem escaped my radar in the '80s.

reply

Actually I'm pretty sure she said "It's only me. They're dead too."

reply

I just played it again, and you're right! It's "They're dead too" (not "You're dead too"). That makes a lot more sense anyway. I stand corrected. Thanks.

reply

wow...guess I wasn't the only one who couldn't hear what the *beep* she was saying!

Patti confessed to killing the other actresses after Samantha revealed that she had killed Stryker. Although before Samantha is killed she tries to find out her motives by saying "What do you mean" and "Why". It is a shame that Samantha did not put up a fight to try and survive but Patti's only movite is that she was already insane long before the killings but tried to cover it up with her comedy attempts on stage so that people would not take her seriously!

Samantha brought it on herself. Patti killed the other girls so that she (Patti) would get the part. Stryker said, in front of all the girls still alive at that time, that Samantha was wrong for the part. Patti wasn't planning on killing Sam because she knew Sam didn't have a chance at the part. Once Patti knew Sam killed Stryker, nobody was going to get the part, so Patti retaliated by killing her.

I love Patti's cornball personality in this film! Everything's fair in love -- and auditions!

Patti lived till the end of this film, but she was dead in an instant in Black Christmas. She was in and out in 24 seconds.

If you notice, Christie was in the room with Brooke and Patti when she said she got up at dawn to skate. That's how Patti knew to go and kill her. Jo Anne Hannah was the one onscreen during all the killing sequences (except Sam's, of course). It was really supposed to have been Patti. It's not fair that she had only one person lower than her on the credits, even though she had a lot of screen time. She also did the trick skating scenes that were supposed to have been Christie. The closeups were Lesleh (as Christie), but the further shots were Jo Anne. Lesleh couldn't handle the skating requirements of the part. I know I couldn't!

How did Patti wind up in the mental institution at the end of the film? Maybe Matthew took her!

Patti didn't have to kill the other girls - I think she would have been the best one for the part.

reply

I would disagree. I think she says "You're dead, too", not "They're dead, too". And that is what would make sense as well. How would "they're dead" make sense?

reply

It's been a year now since I've watched this so my memory is hazy, but I initially though she said "You're dead too." Why would she say "They're dead too" when that was obvious, wasn't it? But really, it's very hard to make out what she says – and this is a pivotal scene. They should have reshot it so her words were clearer.

reply

Samantha just admits that she killed Stryker: then it plays out like this:

Samantha: you wannna call the police? Go ahead I'm not going anywhere... don't worry I won't hurt any of your friends

Patti: Its only me

Samantha: what do you mean?

Patti: they're dead too

Patti is responding to Samantha saying "she wouldn't hurt any of her friends" and when she asks "what do you mean?" Patti tells her THEY're dead.

reply

Thanks for providing the complete dialogue. I have the tape and was intending to track it down to find the answer, but this helps immensely. It's clearly "THEY'RE dead too" because she's talking about her friends. If only all of life's questions could be resolved this easily (well, relatively easily, because this thread has lived longer than many of Patti's friends).

reply

Samantha, after disclosing she killed Stryker, said, "Don't worry. I won't hurt any of your friends." Patti says, "It's only me." Samantha says, "What do you mean"? Patti says, "They're dead too." Samantha says, "You? But why?" Patti then stabs Samantha to death (the actual stabbing isn't shown).

This is a very old thread for a much older film, and I've posted here before, but I've just watched the film again and I was still confused by the dialogue until I consulted the posts here. The dialogue at the end is very hard to make out, and I don't think my old VHS tape is the only reason for that.
