Rate the Clouseaus

We all know that Seller IS Clouseau, but they have now made five films without Sellers (counting Trail of the Pink Panther) and five with him.

For all its flaws, I do think that Curse is the "best" of the post-Sellers era. Trail was tepid and seemed to have no plot. It was just an excuse to capitalize on Seller's death and Son was horrible from start to finish. The same can be said for the Steve Martin rendition. What do y'all think.

Rate the stars! Here is how I rate the Clouseaus.

1. Peter Sellers (Surprise)
2. Alan Arkin
3. Roger Moore (Remember? Best scene in that movie)
4. Ted Wass
5. Steve Martin
6. Roberto Benigni

in all fairness, Wass didn't play Clouseau, and Benigni actually played Clouseau's son, so i'm not sure if they ought to be included here or not... from what's left, though, i'd list them like this:

1. Sellers (DUH!)
2. Martin
3. Moore
4. Arkin

First, I'd like to say that I definitely do NOT agree that "Curse" was the best of the worst Pink Panther movies AKA the post-Sellers era. Steve Martin is not as good as Peter Sellers, but I do not think his Pink Panther reboot was bad. The scene that a dialect coach was trying to teach Clouseau to use a correct American dialect was especially funny.

Anyway, here is my list of how I rate the Clouseaus. I included the detectives/inspectors playing the lead but not named Clouseau and the family members that are named Clouseau:

1. Peter Sellers
*1 1/2. Leslie Nielsen (oh, wait, they didn't ask him to play the part... well, they should have!)
2. Roger Moore
3. Richard Mulligan (he played Clouseau's father in "Trail"
4. Steve Martin
5. Roberto Benigni
6. Ted Wass (horrible... did not laugh ONCE!)
