Does the dog die?

All rapid dogs and other rabid animals die from rabies if they aren't killed. And very few humans have managed to survive the final stage of the disease, even with intensive modern medical care.

he appears in cat's eye in 1985, so no.

There are several references to other Stephen King works: James Woods watches The Dead Zone (1983) and inquires, "Who writes this crap?" The cat is chased by a foaming and bloodied St. Bernard, a reference to Cujo (1983) which was also directed by Lewis Teague. The cat is almost run over by a red Plymouth Fury with a bumper sticker saying, "Watch out for me. I am pure evil. I am Christine.", a reference to Christine (1983). Amanda's mother Sally Ann is reading Stephen King's 1983 novel "Pet Sematary" in bed.

Along with Christine, he makes a cameo appearance in the 1985 film Cat's Eye, where he chases the titular cat known as General. This might hint that Cujo was back to his old, friendly self (or alternatively that the movie took place before the events of Cujo). While chasing General, General managed to hide in a barrell, which cause Cujo to think he lost him and then walks away. However, when General came out of hiding, he resumed chasing all the way to a flip over rowboat where he was trying to catch him. Unaware, General managed to escape by running in the back of a storage truck. When Cujo arrived at the warehouse, he lost of sight and decided to give up, not before looking at a man.

It is possible that Cujo chases General in Cat's Eye sometime before Cujo. If Cujo was bloodied and foaming, the cat chase might be during the events of Cujo. Or maybe Cat's Eye happens after Cujo, where Cujo has been miraculously brought back to life and curied of rabies.

Or possibly the cat General in Cat's Eye is chased by a different foaming and bloodied Saint Bernard dog & not by Cujo.

Different fans may prefer different theories, but I think that most have to admit that Cujo surviving is the least probable & least possible one.
