Siskel and Ebert

Did they ever review Cujo on At The Movies?

reply

Ebert in his review for The Dead Zone referenced Cujo; "No other King novel has been better filmed (certainly not the recent, dreadful "Cujo")."

Siskel had this to say; http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1955&dat=19830916&id=1xs iAAAAIBAJ&sjid=AKcFAAAAIBAJ&pg=2428,4577822

They were pretty harsh on Cujo. There are clearly worse films. I happen to think the movie was well made, so for Siskel to say it's "one of the dumbest movies ever made" just seems wrong. There was certainly nothing "dreadful" about it.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

Although I generally enjoyed their banter on the show, they finally lost all credibility with me when they went off on a rant about how nubile young teenage girls are always the targets of the evil men who want to put them down. They referred to two movies specifically: Friday the 13th, and The Boogens. In each movie a woman was the killer!

reply

There was plenty "dreadful" about Cujo, they were 100% accurate.

To me, "The Dead Zone" is the movie that most feels like Stephen King. I also think that it's David Cronenberg's best film.

Looking back on it, I don't see how CUJO could've been made any better?? The Novel was better of course, but the movie adaptation is one of the Best next to PET SEMATARY and CHRISTINE

reply

he gave Vacation 1 1/2? I specifically remember seeing their review of this and Ebert didn't like it but Siskel said "I enjoyed taking this vacation."
