Editing For Television

Now I didn't see this movie in any theatre, so I've no idea what all did and didn't air.

And I'm aware of things like Airport '77 adding scenes to the movie when it did air on tv to make it span out into a two-parter on two nights.

And when I saw Halloween II on tv, the first time half the hospital staff simply disappeared and the young man who slipped in the blood fell back from the explosion at the end. A year or so later, I saw it with added scenes and it was like, am I watching the same movie?

But it seems now every time I have watched Cross Creek, I am watching more and more of the movie.

Oh, yes, one more. My alltime fave, It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. 'Deleted scenes' have been rediscovered and 'returned' to the movie, tho if you ask me, the 'deleted scenes' were removed for a reason. It's not like lost cameos are being placed back in there.

But anyway, Cross Creek.

When I first viewed it in the 80s, it was clearly edited considerably, based on what I eventually saw. The movie began with her arrival and speaking to the real Norton Baskin and nothing was shown of Geechee's romance were about the two biggest editings.

So nothing of Marjorie's husband at the beginning was shown, nothing of Geechee's husband and I gather there is a bit more here and there that I have just now viewed for the first time in watching it again this week.

As far as I can tell, much of the stuff with Rip Torn, Joanna Miles and Dana Hill is intact, tho I think there is a boat on the water there somewhere that looks different. I've got the movie recorded and haven't watched it all yet. Tim and his wife seem to also be untouched.

Personally, I thought the impression that Geechee was a background character who stood out was better without the husband. I rather liked her that way, but now upon seeing it again with the husband, I'm like, there's a reason he was cut out. He doesn't do anything for the movie and he certainly doesn't add anything new to her.

The scene were she starts to leave could have been over a broken teacup.

I do like the movie but it's strange these scenes are removed and then added back.
