The BEST and ONLY Actor for Holden Caulfield

I used to really wish they made a movie of Catcher in the Rye. I feel it could have been fantastic if it had been made in the 80's and John Cusack played Holden Caulfield. He is the only actor who could have done it (look at him in 'Class') and he's too old now. I read the book in '83 and Cusack 'was Holden' visually as I imagined the story in my mind. Funnily enough I recently found out that when the girl says to Holden '...you look like the kid in the boat movie...', she meant 'Captain Courageous' (1937 with Spencer Tracy)- the 'kid' she refers to is child actor, Freddie Bartholomew.

Yes!! I know this is 4 years old but I totally agree...John Cusack even quoted that his only regret about getting older is not being able to play Holden Caulfied..I really wish he could have played him, especially in the 1980s because it was more closer to the time period and it would feel more authentic. I don't know any young actors now that could capture Caulfied's character like John could have.

Logan Lerman still can

Maybe, Logan plays a lot of good boy roles in his coming of age movies. I don't see him as a pessmistic and scarastic cynic that Holden character would require. John just naturally had the feeling about him.

But, then again I've never seen Logan in a darker role. He is a decent actor he could definitely pull it off.

Watch his latest film, Indignation (2016). I think and hope that you will enjoy it :)
