Darren Mcgavin is 61 during this film. Ralphie is only 9. Very unusual for people to get married and have kids so late back in the 1940's.

20-year-old parents suck! They always wind up in divorce court.

It is unusual but my best friend when I was 12 both his parents were over 50 and had gray hair.

When my best friend and I were freshmen in high school his dad was sixty-five and his mom was in her early fifties.

I always thought the Dad was about 50 and the Mom was about 37.

I am the middle child of 6 siblings. My dad was 44 when my little brother was born.

My best friend's father was 70 when I first met him as an 8 year old. My father was 28 at the time. I was shocked for sure, but it isn't unusual for this to happen. The mother didn't seem so old though. Also, just because the actor was 61, it doesn't mean he can't play someone 10 years younger. He could have passed for someone in their early 50's. People aged earlier back then.

I find the ol' man being 60 curiously funny! I have no problem with it. It helped make this film immortal....
