Historical significance

It is remarkable that this movie might be the only accurate film record to what life was really like in the 1940s for everyday people! Think about it how true the representation of the characters and settings are to Jean Shepherd’s boyhood down to the slang, games kids played, domestic relationships, etc. that can’t be found in a history book or documentary (ie WWII doc). When I watch the film I imagine this is how the 1940s really were like, and with most everyone from that time period now dead or too old to share their memories of the time period, everything else is lost to history or just covers the major events of the era.

It's a pretty good representation, given the exaggerations and stylizations involved in movie making.
