Little Orphan Annie

So was Little Orphan Annie that popular back then? I mean I see girls liking Annie, but guys to? Nothing wrong with that, just seems odd to me.

Apparently, I'm reading the book the movie was made from, and Ralphie does indeed listen to it religiously every afternoon at the same time, I guess the pirates and the decapitating Asp have something to do with it.

reply

Popular with kids in general. Annie was kind of Tomboyish.

Do you think he wants some cheese?

reply

Yeah. She was popular back then, with both girls AND boys.

reply

Tremendously popular, in comic strips and radio, on a level with "Peanuts" in later decades. Both boys and girls sent away for decoder badges (I still have my dad's from 1937).

reply

She was. In the comics Annie was fighting Nazis and criminals, lobbing grenades at tanks, throwing knives, traveling the world with her dog and her rich benefactor. Unfortunately decades later the musical ruined the property and that crap is all anyone thinks of.
