Advice from a real Santa

I have a friend who is a professional Santa. He supplies his own costumes which his wife, who is a dead ringer for Mrs. Claus, makes. He even carries business cards with their pictures on it which he passes out to clerks who ask for his name on an order. He told me that many parents bring their children in too early to Santa and the child is already hyped up with all of the hustle and bustle. He says the ideal age for a kid's first visit is three or four and that way, they can hold still for a photo. He also is up on everything a child could ask about Santa. He really gets enjoyment out of it and has made numerous appearances all over the country. A child's first visit with Santa should be a pleasant one and not one that's rushed in order to get in an extra photo.

I was always the "different" kid, I was probably the only one who asked Santa for a "spiral staircase" for my house lol

I've been the Santa photographer many times. Some parents are so insistent, I developed a technique. I hold the shutter button down halfway to get the camera all set, the parent drops the kid onto Santa's lap, and jumps back out of the way. My job is to snap the picture before the kid realizes what's going on and starts to scream. It usually works, but some kids are just too aware of what's going on and cry immediately.
