Why didn't Buddy go after Dennis as well?

Buddy and his crew only went after Christine and Arnie. Why not Dennis? Repperton and the gang had no problem attacking Dennis in the shop.

That was more of a cheap shot at Dennis really.

I think they saw Arnie as helpless and easy to pick on. Maybe when they knew his car was getting fixed up, they had to kick his ass even harder.

There was the instance where Moochie grabbed Dennis by the crotch, but he also shoved Dennis while Richie tripped him. Plus, Buddy looked as if he was going to do something to Dennis prior to Mr. Casey walking in.

reply

True but all of that was the result of Dennis interfering with them harassing Arnie, it wasn't about any beef they had with Dennis, specifically.

This.

Very good. But brick not hit back!

Maybe they didnt go after Dennis cause he was on the football team an they figured he'd have them backing him

Channel Six News, they'll finger anything with a pulse!

Agree with above poster. Also bullies tend to go after weaker people; Dennis was not the type to take anyone's crap.

reply

My first thought was that bullies like Buddy only go after the weaker ones.

Then I realized, they had trashed Arnie's car after the football game when Dennis was injured (and the clapped over it). Maybe they knew they couldn't really get to him in the hospital. And Arnie's car (though in the garage) was an easy target. The garage was deserted, no witnesses. Maybe there was no way for them to get at Dennis's car without being seen.

reply

Yeah but even so, they likely wouldn't have ever gone after Dennis or his car. Buddy's hatred was specifically aimed at Arnie and destroying the car wasn't so much about the car itself as it was about hurting Arnie and especially knowing how much he had worked on the car...well, that made it even better.

Plus Dennis was a jock, and thus could definitely fight back.

They sure attacked him in the shop because they could not back down at that point, but just remember how Dennis had no trouble hitting first and hard (he floored Buddy).

So as the cowards they are, they must have felt going after him wasn't worth the blowback.
