I think it also had to do with Leigh being the new girl too. I do agree with others that Roseanne was hotter but she was old news to the guys now.

They make Leigh out to be the most stunning girl in the world and she's just average looking.

Who cares what she was wearing? She could have been wearing a burlap sack and it doesn't change the structure/shapes/contours of her face. Alexandra Paul had a beautiful face in 1983, plus she was 5' 10", tall enough to be a super model (Edit: I just checked; she was in fact a model: "Paul began her career working as a model in New York City, and later moved to Los Angeles when she decided to pursue a career in acting"). Kelly Preston looked good, but she wasn't in Paul's league.

Yeah, her body wasn't impressive at all, but her face was. Kelly Preston's body wasn't impressive either. Very few Hollywood actresses have impressive bodies. I'm not impressed unless they wear at least a size 36DD bra (and only real boobs count, of course, and they have to have a good shape).
