Slept on this for far too long.

The idea of a car being the killer is pretty lame when you think about it which is why I always avoided this. I really shouldn't have doubted 80's
Carpenter. The actors are all likable, the atmosphere, pacing and music is perfect. There's a good 10-15 classic quotes in this film. It's also highly rewatchable. I ended up really loving this film.

The explanation for the car's abilities and murderous tendencies are actually quite different between the movie and the book, but I really enjoy both of them.

So, after you've watched the movie a few times, read the book - if you haven't, already. They are the same basic story, told two different ways.

- Oh, SOMEbody asides me is gonna RUE this here particular day...

It rules. The concept is intriguing as far as I’m concerned, and the end result is a fairly well-constructed and completely effective film. Love the atmosphere, performances, soundtrack and of course Christine herself. One of Carpenter's most underrated.

Saw it in 4k last night. The premise is silly on paper but very effective on the screen.

I've always seen the movie as a twisted love story and drama rather than horror and suspense. Maybe horror was expected from Carpenter at that time of his career and people were disappointed because the movie wasn't that scary.
