Breathless Locations - The Pines?

In the movie Richard Gere mentions at the old ruins at the end of the movie that the house was owned by Errol Flynn, this does not seem to be correct as Mullholland Farm was his main residence whilst in CA and another house owned on Linden Drive.

Could it be this location was supposed to be Mullholland?

This is its location at the top of Hillside avenue crossing Fuller Avenue in Hollywood, near Runyon Canyon Park.

Anyone live round there?

I don't know what "The Pines" is, but I lived on Franklin Ave., just east of La Brea, in the early '80s. I visited the spot shown in the film a couple of times (it's a short hike and open, at the time, to the public).

The one time I wanted to go up at night, the gate was guarded, and they told me they were shooting a scene from a film with Richard Gere. It was, of course, much later that I realized it was for Breathless.

There really isn't much to see, but you can catch a nice view of Hollywood below, which is what you see in the film. The view from Mulholland is much higher up, and you can see a lot of the (SF) Valley. (Not sure if you can see the L.A. side from Mulholland.)

I have no idea if this place really was Flynn's home (as Gere claims in the film). This guide seems to think so:

And that's all I know on the subject.

Thanks for reply, I did find out in the end that Flynn lived in the Tennis Court Rooms for a while when he lost his home on Mullholland Dr.

I will check out the area when I am in LA in the future, I take it to be a nice area?

You're welcome, Black. And thanks for the info.

The place holds special significance to me because of fond memories of living in that area, and because I love "Breathless." Most of Hollywood is long past its prime; it's crowded and seedy. The old estate, though, is in the hills overlooking urban Hollywood, and is in a relatively nicer area.

Back in 82 or 83, we used to go up to that deserted estate late at night, and look down on Hollywood below. You would park on a side street north of Hollywood Boulevard, then hike up the hill. It was cool to see it featured in Breathless, a film that featured a lot of out of the way locales.

Does anyone know if this place is today as deserted as it was whilst filming the movie? I wonder who owns this place and let it look this deserted? Strange, isn't it?!
