Human casualties 0.0

Spoilers

Probably the most remarkable display of implausible actions in 'reality based' action movie that I have seen in movies (This includes Schwarzenegger movies). The last 30mins was a pure laugh for anyone with half a brain. The only people who I know who like the last 30min are lawyers, who were actualy salivating with the prospect of lucrative lawsuits against the city of Los Angeles. The imbecile decision making at the top end to shoot down a pilot over civilan populations takes the cake. In fact, not ONE LINE in the movie was given to concerns about civilian saftey, at least MENTION IT for Christ sakes!

This movies action reminded me of the A-team tv series that I watched when I was a kid. The show had all kinds of action, but nobody ever died, in fact no one was even seriously injured! That must has been written in the contract with the network, but this put the implausible factor to 10! I vividly remember one scene in which the A-team shot down a helicptor, which than crashed into the side of a flat walled mountain, exploded, then fell about 200 feet down, all the bad guy occupants then WALKED OUT of the copter shaking and holding their heads.

Braddock says a line at 1:27:30 where he warns that "the potential for destruction of innocent human beings is unimaginable." This is in response to the suggestion of F-16s being launched to take down Murphy.

This indicates that there is indeed at least one line.

thanks missed that

tricksoftrade01, I could be mistaken but I'm sure there was a death on The A Team, just the one though.

It was on one of the last season episodes I think, the General/Colonel who was after them was shot/badly injured somehow (the one who replaced Decker), but not by them, by the other assorted baddies on the ep, and he dies in Smith's arms.

On another note, the helicopter scene you mention was apparently bought from a Bond movie, I saw an interview with someone from the show on a documentary.

Did you just see a Hare Krishna midget in a tree.......floating? Or is it me?

Yeah this movie was ridiculous. First of all Murphy takes down two SWAT helicopters without any injuries, then shoots down an f-16 over the city of Los Angeles (no scene where the jet crashes killing dozens probably). But hey at least we know the pilot ejected safely. Then the other f-16 blows up the top half dozen stories of a highrise in midday, again no sign of casualities. Then a dogfight with a crop dusting hellicopter in downtown Los Angeles, Murphy shoots down crazy McDowell, again no sign of casualites. This movie was pretty lame and Blue Thunder (the helicopter) was a piece of crap. But the most annoying thing of this movie was McDowells lame 'Catch you later' line, awkwardly used 6 times too many.

Yes, the movie was very ridiculous, contrived and cliche`-ridden.

And it's like, yeah, let's dispatch two F-16s to tear up the city trying to take Blue Thunder down, when Murphy isn't even shooting at anything, except in self-defense. And how comfortable would F-16 pilots really be with the thought of having to take down a stealthy, heavily-armored helicopter with a mini-gun mounted on its nose, over the city of LA?

How about Braddock getting on the mobile phone with Blue Thunder, "Alright, Frank, you got that tape delivered to the media, now set that chopper down and we'll talk about it, you'll get a fair hearing?" Something like that instead.

And Cochrane's rampage in the Army helicopter gunship towards the end was the most beyond ludicrous.

Seriously, I don't know how you ppl even enjoy movies if everything has to be uber realistic. Lots of movies have far fetched endings. Do you curmudgeons trash all of them too? Stretching the bounds of reality does not automatically make a movie bad. It can still be a good film with some over the top thrills thrown in (see every action film ever made). And other than firing a missile toward a skyscraper, I didn't see anything that was that far fetched for that time period.

I thought the movie was cool, the cast was great & the ending was kick ass. It also featured some of the coolest flying & stunt work of all time & will likely never be repeated in the same spectacular way.

The GI Joe cartoon had the same kind of excessive attempts to avoid showing deaths, which illustrates just what a cartoon The A-Team was. The A-Team couldn't have been shown causing deaths because they were supposed to be the good guys trying to prove their innocence.

reply

Yeah that put it over my limit. I stopped the movie after he shoots down the jet chasing him.
